Netgear Genie Continues to Appear After Extender Setup? Let's Fix

Netgear Genie setupwizard might appear in your web browser that you try to open when you are connected to Netgear_Ext. The issue might appear if your Netgear device is not set up properly or your extender gets disconnected from your router's WiFi network.

Troubleshooting Netgear Genie that continues to appear After Extender Setup:

·       Perform a power cycle process by rebooting your main router, modem, and extender.
·         Reconnect to the default network of your Netgear WiFi range extender.
·         Open the web browser.
·         Re-run the Netgear extender setup process again.

Clear the Web Browser's Cache, Cookies, and Recent History

Internet Explorer 8, 9, 10, 11 (Windows)
  • Go to the Tools menu.
  • Select Delete Browsing History.
  • Check all boxes (excluding passwords).
  • Click Delete.
  Google Chrome (Win & Mac)
·         Go to the Settings.
·         Select Show advanced settings.
·         Under the Privacy section, select the Clear browsing data option.

Note: Ensure that the Browsing history is selected.
·         Click Clear browsing data.
 Mozilla Firefox (Win & Mac) 
  • Go to the History menu.
  • Select Clear Recent History option. 
Apple Safari (Windows) 
·         First of all, expand the Cog Icon in the upper right corner.
·         Select Reset Safari option.
·         Check all boxes.
·         Click on Reset once done. 
Apple Safari (Mac) 
·         Go to the Safari menu.
·         Select Reset Safari option and check all boxes.
·         Once done, click on Reset.

Reset Netgear Extender Back to the Default Settings

For resetting Netgear extender, follow the steps below.

·         Make sure to have a thin and pointed object handy with you.
·         Then, search for the Netgear extender reset hole.
·         Once found, grab the object and insert it into your extender's reset hole.
·         Hold the reset hole for some time and release it.
·         Your Netgear extender will be reset.

Note: Do not unplug your extender while performing the reset process. Once you reset Netgear extender, set it up back again. For Netgear WiFi extender setup, follow the steps below.

To setup Netgear extender:

  • Grab an Ethernet cable and connect it to your main router.
  • Plug your extender into a working power outlet. The power LED on your Netgear WiFi extender will become solid green. In case you do not see any LED or you see red, amber or blinking blue color LED on your Netgear device, push the power i.e. the on/off button.
  • Open a web browser on your up-to-date WiFi-enabled device.
  • Enter mywifiext.net or Netgear extender IP address in the URL bar field.
  • Now, enter the default Netgear login (username and password) carefully.
  • Click on Log In.
  • Netgear Genie screen appears.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts and set up your Netgear WiFi extender with great ease.
 Note: If you are setting up Netgear extender using an Apple or iOS device, use mywifiext.local web address.
Once you have successfully setup WiFi extender, close the web browser and try to access the Netgear extender login page via www.mywifiext.net or mywifiext local web address.
